May 18. The Celebrity Mercury is no more (for us)
and this is its temporary replacement.
But, it's still Alaska!
A neat boat clears away the "calves" in our path
The surrounding scenery is amazing
and threatening!
The mountains seem alive behind the boat clearing our way
and the crew tells us about the tunnel that saves them so much driving time (see
it?)
Then suddenly!
An avalanche! I couldn't believe my eyes. I
photographed it as it happened.
But, back to the glacier
nestled in the mountains glowing from the sun
We went right up to it
ancient and pristine
Everyone was mesmerized
as the ice fell off before us
and then we left
and I was thinking the glacier was the dull part.
