The morning of May 15 we cruised up Lynn Canal toward Skagway.
Behind us barely visible in the distance road another ship.
Then there were boats ahead, signs of life.
And then maybe buildings.
A pretty harbor nestled in the mountains and mist.

The ship behind, pulled in and docked without so much as a "by your leave."

It was those Holland Americans. What could you expect.

Nice harbor
To the right of the ship was a train.
We were to see it again almost hidden in the white snows of the Yukon!
Behind the train was a cliff
of signs

They were primarily the names of ships and captains that had
docked in Skagway!
A huge mysterious skull grinned out of the wall at us. We found the owner's
grave later.
Skagway
was neat.

Clean and freshly painted.

A building of sticks

White Pass and Yukon Railway

The grave of Soapy Smith
the owner of the skull on the cliff
and the grave of Frank Reid. The man who killed Soapy.

Views of the town and harbor and ships. Then we
traveled over the White Pass and along the Chilkoot Trail

to the Yukon and the Klondike

We were back in Canada!

I bet there's a rock in that snowball |

This is the train we saw before. It came across the White Pass into the Yukon.
We got there first though.
Back to Skagway
and by other famous landmarks

like Dead Horse Pass.

After a great day in Skagway it was time to return to the
ship.

The usual tugboat was waiting to guard our departure.

But wait! He had to hurry over and pick someone up at the dock!

So alas we departed
leaving the Holland Americans
in our wake.

And so we sailed peacefully
away

southward
toward an island lighthouse.

But wait! What that?

And then we continued
past the lighthouse

and other beautiful
mountains
and scenery

into the sunset.
